Harrington Pantry Door - Etched Glass - Lincoln Sign Company 1, originally uploaded by SignsNeverSleep.
This is a door that Vicki has been working on for the last few days, and I would like to point out that this job has been 100% Vicki, design and all.
This is a technique that we call "double-etch" and actually, the glass in this door is not etched at all. Actually sandblasting the glass in the door (which is how "old school" etching was done, is not very cost effective and expensive if you make a mistake (as a mistake usually involves needing to buy a new pane of glass!)).
To get an "etched glass look", we use a material called "Frosted Crystal Vinyl", which we can cut to any shape on our "Sign-O-Shape-Letter-Cutter 8000". To get the above look for Holly's door, Vicki actually covered the inside of the door's glass with the Frosted Crystal to give a solid etched background, flipped the door, and then put the lettering on in the same material. Gives a very nice, classy, understated look.
To see another example of how nice etched glass doors can look, here is another example.
